Description: Yes! That’s right Thursday.

We’ll hike along the creek under a canopy of sycamores and live oaks and return along the Rising Sun Trail for views of the Pacific.  I’ve hiked this canyon many times as it is one of my favorites. The main trail goes past the oldest home in the Santa Monica Mountains, the Mathew Keller House- 1865 to the remains of the Roberts’ house-1952. In 1982 the Roberts home burned but some walls, foundations, fireplaces, can still be seen. The Roberts lived in a mid-century modern home that was featured in home and decorating magazines at the time.  It must have been a Shangri-la existence for the residents. Just above the home are some waterfalls and pools. We will take time to explore, relax, visit, and imagine the home and family life of the Roberts. They named their home and gardens Tropical Terrace. Next, we will make a 777ft ascent to the return trail that follows the canyon below and gives great views of the Pacific. On every G.O. hike I look forward to camaraderie, nature, and exercise.

Restaurant: After the hike please join us, at your own expense, for an early dinner at Malibu Fish Market. The restaurant is very casual but excellent food- outdoor picnic tables, bring your own wine, ocean views. It is very close to Solstice Canyon on PCH.

Directions: 3455 Solstice Canyon Rd. Go Metro or drive approximately 3.5 miles past Malibu Canyon Road, Pepperdine, and make a right on to Corral Canyon Road at the Union 76 gas station. Make the first left. Go to the end parking lot and this is where we will meet. Carpool, save the planet!

Difficulty of Hike: We will go at a moderate pace. 4 miles round trip, approximately 3 hours, with a 777ft ascent.

Bring: Water, hiking shoes, water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, dress in layers, and the ten essentials should cover it.
